Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect blood specimens via venipuncture, capillary puncture, or other collection methods.

  • Verify patient identity and ensure accurate labeling of specimens.

  • Prepare and maintain phlebotomy supplies, equipment, and work area.

  • Deliver or transport specimens to the appropriate laboratory section.

  • Maintain accurate records of specimens collected and procedures performed.

  • Adhere to all relevant health, safety, and quality standards.

  • Provide support and reassurance to patients, especially those with anxiety or sensitivity to needles.

  • Follow infection control and biohazard safety protocols.

  • Assist with data entry or administrative tasks related to specimen handling.

  • Work collaboratively with nurses, laboratory staff, and physicians.


Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Completion of a certified phlebotomy training program.

  • Current Phlebotomy Certification (e.g., CPT or equivalent) preferred.

  • CPR certification (optional but preferred).

  • Minimum of [X] years of experience in a clinical or laboratory setting (optional).


Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent knowledge of venipuncture techniques and specimen collection protocols.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.

  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) is a plus.

  • Empathy, patience, and professionalism.


Work Conditions:

  • May require long periods of standing or walking.

  • Must be able to handle exposure to blood and bodily fluids.

  • May require flexible working hours, including weekends or holidays.
