Description
The Labor Relations Specialist is responsible for fostering positive relationships between the organization and its employees through the administration of collective bargaining agreements, resolution of labor disputes, and ensuring compliance with labor laws and policies. This role supports management and staff by providing expert guidance on labor relations matters and promotes a productive and legally compliant work environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Interpret and administer labor contracts regarding grievances, wages, employee welfare, union practices, and other contractual issues.

Serve as the liaison between union representatives and management.

Participate in collective bargaining negotiations and prepare related documentation.

Investigate and resolve employee complaints and grievances in accordance with legal and contractual guidelines.

Maintain knowledge of current labor laws, union contracts, and relevant case law.

Assist in preparing cases for arbitration or hearings.

Advise management on the impact of labor laws and union agreements on organizational policies.

Develop training materials and provide training to managers on labor relations practices.

Monitor adherence to labor agreements and propose necessary adjustments or updates.

Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s or JD preferred).

3+ years of experience in labor relations or human resources, preferably in a unionized environment.

In-depth knowledge of federal and state labor laws (e.g., NLRA, FMLA, FLSA).

Experience with collective bargaining, grievance resolution, and labor negotiations.

Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

High level of discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Preferred Skills:

Experience in public sector or healthcare labor relations.

Union certification or labor law coursework.
-
Familiarity with HRIS systems and labor relations databases.
